Just a little FYI if you are considering going to Seattle Men’s Chorus at the end of this month. While feverishly trying to get tickets there was an unexpected exclamation of “These tix are HOT” for the two special performances featuring Debbie Reynolds.
Debbie Reynolds is best known as Gene Kelly’s dancing partner in what is considered the greatest musical of all time, Singin’ in the Rain (1952), Debbie will be 77 on April 1st but the sweetheart hasn’t lost a step. In the sitcom Will and Grace, she played Grace’s mother throughout the run of the series until it ended in 2006.
But this concert is really about the Seattle Men’s Chorus and they will be featuring some wonderful songs from classic westerns such as How the West Was Won, High Noon, and Blazing Saddles along with some Oscar-winning songs from the era such as “Moon River” and “The Way You Look Tonight” and many other surprises.
I know I am excited about what is probably a once in a lifetime kind of opportunity to see what I think is one of the most beautiful women in the world and one of America’s most loved icons. She, of course, is the mother Princess Leia actress Carrie Fisher. Be sure to check out Debbie’s interview with Seattle Gay News.
How about in Singin’ in the Rain when she said:
You keep away from me! Just because you’re a big movie star, wild parties, swimming pools, you expect every girl to fall in a dead faint at your feet. Well, don’t you touch me!
Here’s a favorite Debbie moment from Singin’ in the Rain.
“Well…if it isn’t Ethel Barrymore”:
Seattle Men’s Chorus Singin’…In the Rain with Debbie Reynolds will be held March 28-29 at McCaw Hall (home to Pacific Northwest Ballet). Get tickets, while you still can, at www.flyinghouse.org.
And the Seattle Women’s Chorus is performing Lullaby of Broadway on April 10-11 at Meany Theater. I will write a preview soon but in the mean time be sure to check that out as well, here.
