Washington becomes Lucky #8 this Monday…CELEBRATE!

February 11, 2012• bySeattle Gay Scene

The Seattle Women's Chorus will celebrate the signing of the Washington State Marriage Equality bill at a special event this Monday, February 13, 2012.

Washington State Governor Christine Gregoire will sign the Marriage Equality bill giving same sex couples in the state the legal right to marry, this coming Monday, February 13, 2012 at 11:30am at the Capitol in Olympia.

We’re guessing the streets of Capitol Hill will run rainbow with pride as folks celebrate…we know numerous bars are encouraging “Toasts to Equality”. AND, there’s an official-ish community gathering/event happening Monday at 7:30pm at Plymouth Congregational Church, 1217 6th Ave (6th & University) in downtown Seattle. Members of the Seattle Men’s and Women’s Choruses will perform with various speakers on hand to celebrate the day. Here’s the skinny on the event:

Expected guests include: Seattle City Council Member Sally Clark;
Plymouth Congregational Church Pastor, Brigitta Remole;
Executive Director of Washington United for Marriage, Zach Silk;
State Representatives Jamie Pedersen and Ed Murray join in from Olympia
Entertainment provided by the Choruses who will perform music from their upcoming concerts including songs by k.d. Lang and The Beatles.

*Note: If you count Washington D.C. we are the 8th state/political entity to achieve marriage equality in the United States. D.C. gets screwed in so many ways…they should count, too!
