Is it just me, or is every summer movie coming out two months early? None-the-less, I think that Trekkie fans have been looking forward to this movie for quite some time. The movie tells a great story about how Kirk and Spock first meet. Fascinating. Isn’t It? Well, despite the fact that the opening is not what you would like it to be the Theme does not appear at all in the film, but rather at the end credits, which are worth staying to watch for the cool sequence.
The plot seemed a little bit all too familiar for my taste. The make-up looked almost identical on the villain in this film as it did in the previous film ‘Nemesis.’ I will say however the acting is the best part. I noticed that there were a few things that just did not make any sense at all. For example, there is a love interest in the film that is nowhere in the novels or stories of Star Trek history. Again, I say fascinating.
Special effects in this film are really quite good. However, I will state that for the weaponry of starfleet and the Enterprise, it all seemed to be a bit far ahead of its time for Trekkie’s. Chris Pine’s performance as James Tiberius Kirk is quite remarkable. There is no resemblance of William Shatner, but he portrays the character and mannerisms the way that you would think that Captain Kirk would act and behave in certain situations.
My overall rating would be a C. I recommend this film for non-Trekkie’s. It tells a great story. Again, I feel that it is a good film overall, only slightly predictable after awhile. that’s all. Go see it for yourself.
*WARNING: this is merely MY opinion. Don’t base whether or not you see the movie on this.*
