We took time on a Wednesday night to go out to Martin’s Off Madison. Each time I have returned it seems better and better. Bonnie Birch performed with her accordion at promptly 8 pm and I began to realize what a unique gem Seattle has with such a wonderful gay piano bistro. They offer live entertainment every night from 8-11 pm and have two performers on Saturday from 7 pm to Midnight. Sadly there was only a handful of people including a couple that sat in comfort right next to the warm hypnotizing cyclone fireplace.
It appears that they have done some modifying of the menu that has improved it. Everything we ordered was excellent. At $19 I admit that I was skeptical of the Paella but it didn’t disappoint. With an excellent rich flavor it was both moist and filling and accompanied by three large prawns. The Philly Cheese Steak ($10) was also tender and filling but could have used a bit of mayo in it. But maybe that is just my taste. I was particularly impressed with the fresh bread it came in. And it came with the largest pile of crispy Tatar tots I have ever seen that the three of us shared. The service was friendly and much more attentive than my visits on busy Saturday nights. I hope those that appreciate the diverse types of live music offered at a piano bistro will take advantage of this unique Seattle gem. While fall and winter in Seattle are typically dark and soggy I have to admit it was warm and relaxing in Martin’s Off Madison.
