Green beer, green cocktails, Irish car bombs, green face paint and green with envy. Is St. Patrick’s Day an excuse to drink irresponsibly? We tend to let go on this occasion more than any other holiday. When I was coming of age in Philadelphia, I was surrounded by Italian and Irish. I, myself, am a hybrid of the two. Philadelphia comes to a halt so that all can drink in the streets and celebrate the heritage of so many. My sheltered early life led me to believe that this only occurred in our east coast cities with high concentration of Irish immigrants. I was completely wrong. This excuse to drink has spread like wildfire on a national scale.
