The official trailer for the eagerly anticipated summer film, “Magic Mike” is hittin’ the Intertubes. We’ve written about it before…it’s the Steve Soderbergh directed movie based on actor Channing Tatum’s real life, pre-Hollywood male stripper experiences in Florida with an all beefcake line-up of actors including Matt Bomer, Joe Mangianello, Alex Pettyfer and even “old timer” Matthew McConaughey on hand. The filmmakers have been endlessly promoting this film in the gay press for the last year with constant teases about “going all the way” with the nudity, then disclaimers that “well, you won’t see dick, but you’ll almost see dick!” Frankly, we got sick of their non-stop cock teasing six months ago. And, yes, we understand that it makes good sense for them to market a film about male strippers to the gay male community, we’re also a bit suspicious we’re getting taken for a hay ride. Is this film going to have ANY gay content? It’s a film about male strippers…MANY male strippers, regardless of who their targeted audience is, are gay…is this film going to deal with that, even as a subplot?
And, yeah, we understand it’s a fun, summer romp movie and they want it to make a shit ton of money, but this trailer is leaving us cold…it’s AGGRESSIVELY heterosexual. Writer/Star Channing Tatum seems to be a gay friendly dude so we have hopes that the movie will include a little homo content, but we’re gonna have to be convinced that this movie is worthy of the GayTM.
Personally, we’re REALLY hoping that the Joe Magianello character will be the homo in the haystack.
