Scarecrow Video is happy to host the stars and directors of Blood on the Flat Track: The Rise of the Rat City Roller Girls for a DVD release opening reception TONIGHT at 7pm at Scarecrow Video (5030 Roosevelt Way NE). The directors, Lainy Bagwell and Lacey Leavitt will be on hand with several of the current and alumni members to meet fans and sign DVDs. It’s a free event at everyone’s favorite movie rental store and a chance to meet these lovely and fierce ladies and check out their movie. Here’s what it’s about:
The documentary profiles the early days of the RCRG from their origins at a White Center roller rink, to the formation of the league and its four signature teams, to their fierce competition in Tuscon against some of the best leagues in the country. It’s not just a behind the scenes look at the the league and the women who skate but also a profile of the passion and politics involved when a group of dedicated individuals create & maintain a grassroots organization. Plus, there’s plenty of tough derby action as these athletes race, block, push, and sometimes flat out fight their way to victory on the track.
And, to learn more about Rat City and their next match on March 6th, go to their website…they are BEYOND awesome. And apologies for the late notice on this one; I ran out of room/time in Friday’s movie column and meant to post something about this before today…my regrets to Rat City for not doing so…please don’t rollerblade me!
