Ladies Who Like Ladies Like to Rock: Danielli and Eighteen Individual Eyes @ The Skylark on Friday!

February 26, 2010• byMichael Strangeways

Face it. You need to get your butt off the Hill…and all you non-Hill dwellers need to lighten up on all your Fremont/ Ballard/ West Seattle nesting and shake your tail feathers some place different. My best advice for y’all is to leave the house Friday night and get in your car/public transit and go to Delridge, the odd little neighborhood that’s not quite West Seattle and not quite a docking facility and head to the sweet little bar/restaurant known as The Skylark and check out some great music. Music starts at 9pm but get there earlier to enjoy some snacks; they have good tater tots! Oh, and there’s no cover so you’ll have more money to buy said snacks and delicious drinks as well.

As for the bands, they are both great. Danielli has been around for 9ish years or so in various incarnations and they’re one of those secret, stealth bands that are really good but never get big because the members all have grown-up jobs. You’ll enjoy their sweet pop/rock harmonies and soulful/sexy lyrics and you’ll understand why they were a Stranger Band of the Week recently. Check out their music on their MySpace page.

Eighteen Individual Eyes SOUNDS like a new band, and they are, but it’s no secret that the implosion of two excellent local bands, The Hungry Pines and H is for Hellgate resulted in the new divinity known as 18IndEyes. This all female quartet has been playing shows all over town and toured in Oregon and they have a new EP out. Check out their MySpace page and music here. Both bands should probably have cds available the night of the show…check them out but if you’ve never been to The Skylark, make sure you GoogleMap it or get directions before you go…I don’t want to be responsible for you wandering around the dockyards for hours before you get eaten by rats or accosted by rude tars and salts…

FYI: The Skylark is not a GLBT establishment but it is queer friendly. Neither band would play there if it wasn’t.

Conflict of Interest: I’ve slept with all three members of Danielli at one time or the other, in the sense that we’ve all slumbered within 20 feet of one another on the same floor of the same apartment building and shared communal walls…still, I wouldn’t recommend them if they sucked. As for 18 Individuals Eyes, to the best of my knowledge I have not slept anywhere near any of those fine young women…-Michael Strangeways

In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
