Countdown to Oscar Night 2010: Local Party Options Update, Tom Skerritt Edition

March 3, 2010• byMichael Strangeways

Hey, it’s getting closer to Oscar Day and if you’re jonesin’ to watch the show in style, then here’s a list (which I snagged from the SIFF newsletter; Thanks SIFF!) of various parties going on in the Puget Sound region, most of which serve as fundraisers for various non-profits, so you can pick and choose based on your favorite group, location, or your desire to hang out with local celebrity and everyone’s favorite Top Gunner, Tom Skerritt…

  • Gay City Health Project & Three Dollar Bill Cinema at SoDo Park, $25-$40
  • 2nd Annual Reel Grrls Oscar® Party at Central Cinema, $25-$79
  • 4th Annual BIG Oscar Bash benefiting Big Brothers and Big Sisters at the MODA Room, Copper Cart Cafe in Belltown, $35-$100
  • A Night at the Oscars at Hotel 1000, $65
  • The Film School at The Triple Door, $150 (Hosted by Mr and Mrs Skerritt)
  • Grand Cinema Hosts Tacoma’s Academy Awards Party Live at the Rialto, $15-$18
  • Walk the Red Carpet for Children’s Hospital at Lincoln Square Cinema, $50
  • Washington Filmworks at Spitfire, 4:00pm, $10

And, don’t forget that many local bars will be throwing parties as well, including Purr, Madison Pub and R Place, but those parties will probably not be featuring Mr. Skerritt…(yes, I am obsessed with him!)

About the Author: Michael Strangeways

As the Editorial Director/Co-Owner, Michael Strangeways writes, edits and does about a million other jobs for Seattle Gay Scene, Puget Sound's most visited LGBTQ news, arts and entertainment website now celebrating its 14th year as a media outlet. A semi-proud Midwesterner by birth, he's lived in Seattle since 2000. He's also a film producer who would like you to check out the Jinkx Monsoon documentary, "Drag Becomes Him" now available on Amazon.com. In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
