Master Tuckers Invade (and Conquer) Seattle in March: Justin Bond, Jackie Beat and The One and Only, Dina Martina!

March 5, 2010• byMichael Strangeways

SGS LOOOOOOOOVES the mens who dress up like the ladiez and do so in an artistic, funny and original manner, so we are beside ourselves that so many talented “Superstars of the Genre Known as Cabaret Drag” are coming to Seattle stages this month, singing and dancing and “jift parading” their way into our jaded, bitter hearts. That “jifter” is our very own Dina Martina who’s show opens TONIGHT at Re-bar…I’ve already plugged her show once before on here, so I’m not going to repeat myself, but you’d be foolish to miss her annual spring fling which runs through April 17th and features all new comedy, songs and videos. I’m just sad I’m not seeing it until later in the month…

You’ll have to wait until Thursday, March 18th to swoon to the sounds of Justin Bond, New York’s favorite cabaret performer/chanteuse/former channeler of Kiki from “Kiki and Herb”. Local burlesque star/entrepreneur The Swedish Housewife is presenting Bond’s new show, “Angels of the Morning-The Ladies of AM Radio” at The Triple Door for that one night. Judging by the title and what Justin has to say about the show, I think we’re in for an evening of unforgettable music from the 1970’s:

“Slip into your STRING BIKINI and turn on your TRANS/SISTER radio and say hello to SUNNY SKIES with Justin Bond and The Ladies of top 40 AM. Picture yourself POOLSIDE in the early 1970’s slathered in COPPER TONE. The sun is Killing You Softly as you sip a PINA COLADA and breathe in the AFTERNOON DELIGHT. Justin promises to Light Up Your Life with a bevy of special guests! WERQUE!!!” – Justin Bond

Show starts at 8pm and advance tickets are $22 and well worth the price; check it out.

And, for folks who like their drag entertainment on the “earthier” side there is no need to look any further than Wednesday, March 24th and the appearance of Miss Jackie Beat and her Seattle debut cabaret performance at Julia’s on Broadway. The divine Miss Beat has been here before as part of Trannyshack and as the lead singer of Dirty Sanchez but she’s never had the stage all to herself in the Emerald City. And, if you’ve never experienced her raunchy stylings then check her out on YouTube. You can watch hilarious videos of her work as a solo singer, with Dirty Sanchez and comedy work with Roseanne, Nadya Ginsburg, Selene Luna and Mario Diaz. This show is probably going to sell out, so I urge you to get your tickets NOW!

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go practice walking in high heels…I’m working on a drag act that’ll get me as rich and famous as these bit–, I mean, ladies…

But, not necessarily in that order.
