Take a deep breath…Seattle Pride Weekend is prepared for lift off and it’s gonna be a long ass weekend of events, so pace yourselves! Pride used to be a one day thing with a parade and a festival and now it’s a mega, multi day marathon with a ridiculously large number of events to choose from. Saturday and Sunday are obviously jam packed with options, but Friday has a lot going on as well. We’re gonna run down some options but you can also check out our huge Pride Guide Page and the Main Calendar for further options for the weekend and further down the road as well.
Obviously, the big event is “Hey Tranny, It’s Tranny!” Kevin Kauer/DJ Nark’s annual glitterbomb party event/fundraiser for Gay City Health Project which has outgrown its former digs at Havana and graduated to the Big Time and the far more spacious Neumos. It’s also grown to include a jaw dropping array of headliners including JD Samson, Hi Fashion, SSION, and DJ’s Edgar Um and Phyllis Navidad but the main attraction is the insanely popular star and winner of this year’s “RuPaul’s Drag Race”, Sharon Needles, making her debut appearance in Seattle with her kiki partner in crime, Alaska Thunderfuck. The show is not very surprisingly sold out, but you can still check out Ms Needles at a pre-func event at The Grill on Broadway for their “Freak Out” Pride Party with hostess Mama Tits and performances from The Haus of Lady Dude and Sylvia O’Stayformore and DJ music by Disco Vinnie. The Grill fun is FREE (but, buy something to eat/drink, people!) and it’s All Ages!
Drag lovers and RuPaul Drag Race lovers have a ridiculous amount of options for Friday besides Ms Needles…her comrade on Season 4, the divine Latrice Royale is also making her Seattle debut on Friday night, at R Place and accompanied by two more RPDR queens, Jujubee and Jessica Wild which they repeat on Saturday as well but BOTH these shows are ALSO sold out!
The final Drag Race star of the night is the beloved Pandora Boxx and she’s turning up at The Social for their “GLOW-A Black Light Party” with DJ Rob Hall and hostess Ursula Major. Apparently there are advanced tickets at The Social and hopefully some left by the day of show…Ms Boxx will also do a pre-func meet n’ greet at EVO Tapas Bar prior to the party.
And, of course every bar/club on the Hill has something going on including Purr with The Perry Twins; Pony with its Shenanigans Party; Neighbours has recording artist Kerli; Lobby…Cuff…The Eagle…EVERYONE has somethin’ special up their sleeve involving booze, go go boys/girls, out of town divas/djs and cover charges…
Oh, and for the Ladies, The Wildrose will be getting their headstart on their beloved “Bush” Beer Garden Party with DJ B’More Free (6-7:30pm), DJ Joy (7:30-9:30pm), Raine SUmpreme (9:30-10pm), Wet T-Shirt (10pm-12am), DJs Mathematix & Amateur Youth (12-2am).
There’s even options for people who don’t need to/have to/want to drink liquor and watch drag queens and out of town djs!
For our Jewish friends, there’s a Pride Shabbat at Temple de Hirsch Sinai…for fans of choral music/theater there’s the options of the Seattle Men’s Choir concert at McCaw Hall, “Sing Out” or the sardonic delights of Sandra Bernhard at The Triple Door.
And, for the kids who aren’t old enough to drink and party, there’s the GLSEN Youth Pride Dance at the Yesler Community Center.
Or, just stay at home and watch old Bette Davis movies on TCM…whatever floats your boat!
