The Storm’s WNBA championship in 2004 was Seattle’s first major title since the Sonics won the NBA championship in 1979.
The Seattle Storm is a refuge: Lesbian community feels accepted at WNBA team’s games. The team represents much of the diversity that defines Seattle. This splits the Women’s Seattle Storm franchise from the Men’s NBA franchise the Seattle Sonics, who are still looking to move to Oklahoma by 2010 when their lease expires.
