So here it the deal with H&M Stores (H&M article) opening this fall. Sure H&M use to be a slightly better deal than it is now however it still remains the lowest price for hip fashion. The people that complain about H&M either find it perfectly fine to buy a logo sweatshirt that EVERYONE recognizes from one of those other frumpy clothing chains or they are offended because they just spent $450 on a designer shirt.
The thing with H&M is they are always changing much of their inventory so THAT makes it different from, say an IKEA. Just a few years ago I bought some really cool shirts for like $5 each and once I bought them they were gone. No one else ever had them. While visiting in Chicago each morning a new shipment would come in of really cool unique shirts so we tried to grab what we could. Heck, for $5 I could not even buy lunch. Since they have become so popular over the years all over the world I think they have had to outsource and mass produce more.
But here’s the thing. When most people recognize you are wearing H&M you would assume people would think your cheap. But no, it is actually cool. When people recognize you are wearing H&M most actually think you are hip despite the low prices. That is not the case with any of those other low-cost clothing chains.
But the one thing that stresses me out is the customer competitiveness associated with H&M and the long lines to get into the stores and at the cashiers. Everyone wants to be the first to grab something before it sells out so some advice is don’t even think of trying to use a changing room. Know your size and return it if it does not fit.
