Pride Events for the Ladies and the Menschs and the Jocks and the Kids…

June 25, 2010• byMichael Strangeways

So many Pride events are geared towards booze and bulges it behooves us to provide alternatives for those in the community less geared toward consuming alkyhol and gawking at semi-nekkid men…some people like consuming alkyhol and gawking at semi-nekkid WOMYN so it seems fitting we mention that the Wildrose is hosting numerous events including tonight’s big hoopla that includes a set by FTM trans DJ Mathematix and a wet t-shirt contest at 10pm with MC Frat Boy…Ladies Who Love Ladies have decadent, lusty needs to ogle same-sex flesh, TOO! OR, for you Ladies who need a little break from the Seattle’s only lesbian bar, you can check out the HOT-HOT-HOT action at Girl4Girl’s Gay Pride Party at the Cirque Event Center, two blocks EAST of the Space Needle at 131 Taylor Avenue North. There will be a massive 3000 square foot dance floor, music by DJ Stacey, performances by Fuchsia FoXXX, Go-Go dancers and so very much more…it starts at 9pm and will probably end sometime around next Tuesday (not really). Oh, and it’s obviously 21+ and according to the site, MEN are allowed in as well…just behave yourselves and don’t be all creepy about seeing Ladies Dancing and Making Out with Other Ladies! (you know who you are…)

For folks of different cultural backgrounds, you have some options as well…Temple De Hirsch Sinai at 1441 16th Avenue is hosting a Pride Shabbat at 7pm with wine and appetizers for our Jewish LGBTQ community and their allies followed by Shabbat services at 7:30pm. And, our Asian/Pacific Rim LGBTQ friends are hosting a do called Pride Asia at Cafe Metropolitain starting at 9pm with hostess Aleksa Manila and the usual suspects of dj’d music by DJ Luying and DJ Ericket and drink specials of various kinds, hopefully with lots of little umbrellas in them…

And, we can’t leave out the athletically minded members of our little Gay Burg…We’ve already done a piece on Prom Dress Rugby and there’s nothing more I can add to that fine piece of reportage other than, it’s going down at Cal Anderson Park at 7:30pm tonight and it will feature some very sexy athletic men and women playing rugby in formal evening gowns and some very expensive dry cleaning bills on Monday…For less aggressive physical activity there’s DISCO YOGA at The Yoga Den, 514 12th Avenue Suite B, TOMORROW (Saturday, June 26) at 10:30am for the CLOTHED class and noon for the NAKED class (it’s strictly yoga, not a sex thing! Honestly!). The price is $15 for each class with proceeds going to Gay City. And, you’ll need to be limbered up if you’re going to make it through the entire weekend of pride and frivolity…

And, for families and non-drinkers, there’s the option of Bend-It’s all-ages festival which continues today in Cal Anderson Park with a music line-up that includes The Redwood Plan, Hail Seizures, Black Letter Edition Junk Bones, Emma and many more…it starts at 3pm and the music will be followed by a screening of Travel Queeries at dusk with locally made short films…you can bounce back and forth between this festival and the rugby match at the playing fields and make it an alkyhol-free but family friendly Pride night of fun…check it out!

About the Author: Michael Strangeways

As the Editorial Director/Co-Owner, Michael Strangeways writes, edits and does about a million other jobs for Seattle Gay Scene, Puget Sound's most visited LGBTQ news, arts and entertainment website now celebrating its 14th year as a media outlet. A semi-proud Midwesterner by birth, he's lived in Seattle since 2000. He's also a film producer who would like you to check out the Jinkx Monsoon documentary, "Drag Becomes Him" now available on Amazon.com. In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
