Heard It Through the Gay Vine: I wonder what local Queer bar might be moving into the old Martin’s Off Madison space?

We were planning on doing a story on how Martin’s Off Madison the sort of beloved gay piano bar behind Chop Suey at 14th and Madison had changed owners and names to “Gregg’s Profanity Hill Grill” a few weeks ago but before we could get anything up, the ridiculously named bar went belly up, as reported on the Capitol Hill Seattle blog. (I had also heard that the changes made to the bar were ill advised and poorly executed and that the service at the bar was bad to the point of rudeness…a female friend of mine reported that she had a very negative experience in the bar after the name change, and vowed never to go back…)

This weekend I’ve heard a bit of gossip about what might next be in store for that space…I hard it from one source but didn’t want to run with it without some sort of backup from another source and I’ve just heard from another independent party so I’m going to run with it…Rumor has it, that a certain long established Capitol Hill gay bar that is soon to lose its home due to gentrification is looking at not only the Martin’s/Profanity space but also the old bakery space immediately BEHIND the bar and the intent is to knock down a wall and combine the buildings into one big megabar…after all, the Men’s of Seattle need Room to party and hang out and I’ve sent out an email trying to verify the rumor and CC‘d a very big wig and hopefully the new place will have parking big enough to handle a Cadillac or maybe even be able to feature a nice Veranda to hang out on…heh, heh.

But, to be honest, I’d rather someone resurrect the prior occupant of that space, the nautically themed gay dive, The Sea Wolf (aka, “The Sea Woof”)…I loved that bar and all the delightful Seamen I encountered there!

But, not necessarily in that order.

I heard that they were in negotiations with the owner's of Chop Suey to expand into that space as well…It looks like they are going to take over the whole freakin block! Awesome!
