Everyone loves an underdog and after completing the season with only 4 wins and 14 losses, Seattle’s Team Stealth earned its way into the 2010 Gay Softball World Series in the last inning of the championship game. They came from eight runs behind to secure a victory and a berth to the World Series in Columbus, OH. Amazing that a 4-14 team beat the top two teams but maybe it’s not surprising since their team motto this year was “You can’t see us coming!” Stealth player Michael O. reacted to their miraculous win:
The best part was after we had won. Seeing fans coming from the bleachers crying and congratulating us. It really choked me up and I had to stop myself from crying. Experiences like this are few and I’m really glad I got to have it with such a great bunch of people, especially Coach Denny who I credit with our win.
Stunned with their unexpected victory and no financial sponsor- the team is left with a huge problem. They need to raise $6,000 before the World Series in Columbus, Ohio which is only a few weeks from now. Unlike many teams, Seattle Stealth is not sponsored by a local company or bar.
Here are some of the events where you can help the team out:
At The Eagle: Saturdays July 17th, July 24th and August 7th they will be selling Jello Shots. You will also see volunteers from Team Stealth selling shots at Purr, CC Attle’s and The Elite. So if you see someone be sure to buy a few for your friends.
They are planning a Bowling Tournament on August 7th at Roxbury Lanes for just $15 per person and a Carwash on August 8th with location still yet to be determined. Watch for Team Stealth volunteers and players fundraising when you are out and about.
More details on future events as we get them.
Update: I hear they will be printing up “4-14” T-Shirts as part of their fundraising. We’ll let you know how to get one when they are printed.
