Reminder that ish is this Saturday @ 10 pm. And as you can see from my review that originally appeared on Tuesday it is one of the hottest parties in Seattle now.
My impression last month when I walked into ish was immediate. This was more than just another club party. I could feel the positive energy as Gemini promoters Joe and Nadia masterfully directed their soiree with personal attention to everyone in attendance of their event.
This language comes directly from Gemini Events Mission Statement:
The Gemini Mission is to bring a new level of excitement and positive energy to the Gay Scene in Seattle. Our music format is something different and unique – Top 40’s Mash-Ups, Hip-Hop and R&B. It evokes positively charged nostalgic emotions from your past; catapulting your Soul through a euphoric experience. We embrace diversity, positive energy and respect!
In all honesty, I wasn’t all that impressed with their SweetSpot Events held on Friday nights at Sugar back a couple of years ago. However, it looks like these promoters have taken the components of their events that worked while developing and even improving on the whole “positive energy” vibe and transforming into a successful and refreshingly unique format that is now called ish.
As I walked around ish last month I could sense the sincere enjoyment from most people who seemed genuinely like they were having a really good time. This was a gay event that played a diverse selection of music not just Hip-Hop and R&B and not just Top-40 either. You could sense this tone of positive energy and respect throughout the entire night.
Joe and Nadia of Gemini seem to be promoters with a conscience. They teamed up with an HRC Fundraising Event being held on the same night this weekend, offering everyone who supports and attends the West Seattle HRC benefit free admission into ish.
In a rapidly changing city environment the increasing tension and sporadic violence has made some (actually I think many people) become increasingly uneasy with the Capitol Hill nightlife. It’s nice that Gemini Events has not only brought back respect and tolerance but they seem to have taken it to a higher level in a unique format for gay parties. I have to wonder what will they come up with next.
ish is Saturday February 2, 2008, and every 1st Saturday of the month, at the Baltic Room starting at 10 pm until 2 am.
Admission is $5.
