Even if you are not going up for a whole week at Whistler’s WinterPRIDE 2008 there is still good reason to go for the weekend of Feb. 8 – 10. Two big events, Mountaintop (7 pm to midnight) and Snowball (10 pm to 6 am), happen on Friday and Saturday nights. Also on Friday there is “Village T-Dance” from 4 to 7 pm.
Best way to get up to Whistler from Vancouver is the Snowbus. About the same as what Greyhound or the AMTRAK bus will cost but much nicer. Use the secret code only available at GayWhistler.com to get a free Snowcard which will give you a great discount. The transportation options are described here.
Another option, if you are considering not staying the night in Whistler and only want to attend Snowball, is the Snowball Express Bus leaving Vancouver the night of the party at 8 pm and coming back immediately after the party at 6 am. Combination tickets for Snowball and Bus is $100 vs. $85 for just the party ticket. I don’t know what bus service they will use for the Snowball Party Bus but the timing is perfect if you just want to go to Snowball, the price is amazing, and it should be a lot of fun riding only with people going to Snowball.
Here is the details of the Party Bus:
Bus departs Vancouver at 8pm SHARP! Saturday night.
Return bus leaves Whistler at 6am SHARP! the morning after.
The tickets that include the bus and are available in advance from Clubzone. But with a $7.25 service charge per ticket and $12.95 Fed Ex mailing fee.
They are also available at Little Sister’s and Priape in Vancouver on Davie Street but I don’t know the details of how close to the event that they still will be selling the tickets. Remember Little Sister’s does not charge a service fee so they accept cash only and will not hold tickets.
Tickets are higher at the door ($110 for Mountaintop and $100 for Snowball) so you may want to buy them advance. And if you haven’t looked at all the events lately you might just want to consider staying the whole week.
For the women “L Party” ($35) goes from 10 pm to 2 am on Saturday. I am not sure if it is worth a drive all the way up to Whistler just for the “L Party” but for $85 you can get a combo ticket to both the “L Party” and Snowball. Also this year WinterPRIDE has a ton of events going on all week long for women.
Don’t forget new border crossing requirements starting January 31. Two Steps:
To prove your citizenship, you must show the border inspector a passport, birth certificate or naturalization certificate — something that proves your U.S. citizenship.
To prove your identification, all travelers 19 and older must also have government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license.
You are not required to have a passport when traveling by car BUT you MUST have something in addition to a driver’s license. Traveling by airplane requires a passport.
Have a great time at Whistler next month and drive safe and sober!
