SQFF Centerpiece Film: ASOG

September 28, 2024• byMichael Strangeways

More info on The Seattle Queer Film Festival’s Centerpiece film ASOG screening October 11th at AMC Pacific Place in downtown Seattle.

The Seattle Queer Film Festival’s Centerpiece film, ASOG is an unforgettable queer odyssey that blends drag, wit, and activism.

Asog is a fabulously queer odyssey with a stormy twist, starring Jaya, a sharp-tongued, non-binary comedian whose shot at fame was washed away by a typhoon that left their TV career in ruins. A decade later, stuck in the drag of an uninspiring teaching gig, Jaya embarks on a glitter-filled journey across the Philippines, aiming to slay in a drag pageant that could finally bring them the fortune and fame they deserve. But the universe throws them a curveball in the form of a former student, also on a mission—to find their missing dad. Together, the fabulous queer duo navigates more than just roadblocks. Their voyage dives deep into their identities, the scars of colonialism, and the urgent fight for climate justice.

Co-executive produced by queer icons Alan Cumming, Joel Kim Booster, and Adam McKay, Asog is a dazzling blend of drag, wit, and activism, and a must-see for anyone who loves a good laugh with a side of revolution. Winner of the Audience Award at the Vancouver International Film Festival, this film is a celebration of queer resilience and radical joy!

About the Author: Michael Strangeways

As the Editorial Director/Co-Owner, Michael Strangeways writes, edits and does about a million other jobs for Seattle Gay Scene, Puget Sound's most visited LGBTQ news, arts and entertainment website now celebrating its 14th year as a media outlet. A semi-proud Midwesterner by birth, he's lived in Seattle since 2000. He's also a film producer who would like you to check out the Jinkx Monsoon documentary, "Drag Becomes Him" now available on Amazon.com. In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
