Yes, we throw a lot of love Three Dollar Bill Cinema’s way…we love the film festivals they put on, (Seattle Lesbian & Gay Film Festival; Translations Film Festival for the Trans community), the monthly event Cineoke, the spring and summer film series, their special events, the many, many fabulous people at Three Dollar Bill, some of whom contribute to this site and others who like to watch us get drunk at public events, (ahem). But, they deserve our love and support…they put on some great events.
And, they have some doozies coming up. Tonight is the monthly Cineoke event at the Rendezvous in Belltown, (check it out) and Wednesday, January 12 they start a new series at Central Cinema, “It’s Good To Be Gay” a bi-monthly series of Queer friendly films that debuts with a screening of the 2003 camp classic, Girls Will Be Girls starring Jack Plotnick as the divinely drunken actress Evie Harris and Jeffrey Roberson as Miss Varla Jean Merman. It’s a hoot and a half and tickets are still available at the Central Cinema website.
Also coming up in the weeks ahead: Three Dollar Bill’s big, stupendous Oscar Party and this year’s event is Sunday, February 27 and it’s at a FABULOUS new location this year…they haven’t officially announced it yet, so I won’t spill the beans, but let’s just say you’ll have the opportunity to view the 2011 Oscars on the biggest, best and most recently refurbished screen in Seattle, (wink). You also need to mark your calendars for Three Dollar Bill Cinema’s annual fundraiser/dinner. This year’s event is being called “Velvet Goldmine” and it takes place Friday, March 25 at the SoDo Park, 3200 1st Avenue South. Tickets are NOT available for either one of these big events, but keep your eyes posted for updates in the coming weeks.
And, finally, the last day to submit films for Translations: The Seattle Transgender Film Festival is March 5, 2011. For non-filmmakers but for film lovers, the festival runs May 12 – 15 and is co-presented by The Center for Transgender Health and Wellness. For more info on submitting your film, go here.
