‘Confession’ to cleanse the sins

April 9, 2008• bySeattle Gay Scene

On Saturday April 5, Chapel Bar held “Confession” with DJ Colby B.

Not that long after they event started the bar got fairly crowded including the nice outdoor atrium. The bartenders were very attentive and getting a drink was a breeze.

I am always taken aback by the fact that this place was the former home to Butterworth’s Mortuary and the vibe of the bar is unlike anything you can find anywhere.

Judging from the crowd, I think the promoters are on their way to a another popular theme night and I have to strongly say that the music was excellent, however, other than the decor (which is a mortuary anyway) I did not get the whole “Confession” theme from the event and few patrons seemed to be dressed for the occasion. But those people that did, went all out with the their costumes.

While the crowd appeared mostly straight (which is typical at Chapel) I felt a greater sense of gay infusion into this event. The upper balcony was open and seemed to look like a movie set with a gaggle of gays and lesbians who lounged around in the darkly lit space like Sodom’s oasis.

What is nice about the first Saturday of the month is that Confession at Chapel and Ish at Baltic Room are so close together that you can easily go from one to the other and back again.

The next Confession at Chapel is Saturday, May 3, 2008. Until then your sins are not forgiven.
