PREVIEW: Fathers and Sons
ACT announces the World Premiere of Fathers and Sons by the amazingly gifted writer, Michael Bradford. Fathers and Sons (April 25-May 25), is produced as a part of the Hansberry Project, a professional Black theatre company dedicated to the artistic exploration of African American life, history, and culture. Directed by Valerie Curtis-Newton, Fathers and Sons will feature the local talents of William Hall Jr., Reginald Andre Jackson, Tracey Leigh and Wilbur Penn. More information follows below.
The play explores what it means to be a father, a son, a husband, and a man. Marcus, his father Leon, and grandfather Bernard confront a history of absence, mistakes, mistrust, and broken promises as they strive to redefine themselves as fathers and sons. Initially wary of each other, they come together in the midst of family crisis and ultimately discover that “Ain’t nothing a good love can’t heal.”
Fathers and Sons runs April 25 – May 25, 2008 (Previews April 25-30). Tickets range from $10 to $55 (Pay-What-You-Will shows: Sunday, April 27, 7:30 pm and Thursday, May 8, 2:00 pm).
