I know many, many Disney nerds are going to plotz when they read this: Disney Cruise Lines just announced that they are adding three new port of call cities in 2012 and one of them is Seattle. Beginning May 28, 2012, the Disney Wonder will embark from the Port of Seattle to make 14 seven day cruises to Alaska per season with prices starting at $917 per person, double occupancy. From the press release:
These cruises will combine the natural wonder and adventurous spirit of Alaska with the unparalleled, family-friendly experience found on a Disney Cruise Line ship. Disney Cruise Line works closely with Alaskan tour operators to create exclusive-to-Disney family-friendly Port Adventures that allow guests to best experience Alaska’s natural beauty and rich history.
On their Alaskan adventure, guests may catch a glimpse of a brown bear, bald eagle or humpback whale. They can explore magnificent glaciers and fjords in Juneau. In Ketchikan, guests can fish for some of the largest wild salmon in the world and learn about local culture through hand-carved totem poles. In Skagway, Disney Cruise Line guests can traverse panoramic landscapes by railway, or pan for gold like miners from the famous Klondike gold rush.
The other two new embarkation cities added in 2012 will be New York City and Galveston, Texas. Disney Cruise fans will have five options and itineraries to choose from with the addition of these three ports in addition to the original ports of Los Angeles and Port Canaveral in Florida.
This news is also good for the local economy with Disney becoming the seventh major cruise line to base trips out of the Port of Seattle, joining Princess, Holland America, Carnival, Celebrity, Norwegian and Royal Caribbean. All those Disney loving tourists will be spending their lovely tourist dollars in venues all over the city and since many, many LGBTQ folk adore Disney, some of that money should float up the Hill. Good news all around.
