Grey Gallery & Lounge emerged this month in all its glory on 11th Ave between Pike and Pine Streets in a beautifully transformed space formerly housing a thrift store. It is curiously situated with Purr Cocktail Lounge and The Crypt on one side and the Barca Lounge on the other side. The space is a gleaming gem of part lounge, part art gallery, and part special events space all uniquely fused together in seamless fashion. Lounge space and artwork coexist perilously unimpeded along with a single exposed wooden beam protruding from center of the gallery supporting another large wooden beam across the ceiling and connecting with a half dozen more angled beams.
The Gallery recently hosted their Grand Opening Party on Friday January 25th. Metroblogging Seattle has this short report from their opening. The current exhibition is Laura C. Wright “Un Titled” on exhibit until March 8, 2008 along with several other artists using different types of media.
Owner and director Erik Guttridge has created a wonderful space for his art gallery, lounge and cafe. The stock they serve in the bar is of premium quality, one charateristic that they proudly feel sets them apart from some other places. The lounge is open from 8 am until 2 am and serves Vivace! Espresso in the morning. The Gallery exhibits are available 11 am to 7 pm (Tuesday-Saturday) or by appointment or by chance.
Chris McMullen’s sculpture Pump.1 (2007 Mild steel 17 x 27 x 27 inches) looks out
over the lounge tables located in their loft and on display at Grey Gallery and Lounge.
This place looks awesome!
