For fan boys/girls of a certain age, news that Disney was planning a sequel to the 1982 film Tron, was exciting news. The cult sci-fi film was not a huge hit in its time, but earned sleeper status as a definitive founding father of the canon of computer tech films that were to come in future decades. (Also, it looked cool as hell, despite the thin as gruel plot line and character development). After years of rumor and false starts, Disney authorized a sequel to the film and the result, Tron: Legacy hits cinemas this Friday, December 17. Jeff Bridges returns as both inventor Kevin Flynn and his cyber personality Clu and advanced CGI technology was used to “youthen” Bridges to play the cyber creation (cyber beings don’t age!) And, starring as Flynn’s 27 year old son, is hot actor Garrett Hedlund, best known for his role on the acclaimed television series, Friday Night Lights. Mr Hedlund is apparently an up and comer in Hollywood; it’s not hard to see why…
Other reasons to check this film out: Daft Punk wrote the music score for the film. It seems a perfect fit: the chilly, tech world of Tron combined with the techy, chill sound of DP. It’s a match made in Techno Heaven but will there be plenty of steamy, hot “Robot Love” in this film?
Let’s hope so.
