Scooped again, dammit…CHS has the skinny on the new Bear Bar on 14th.

June 7, 2011• bySeattle Gay Scene

Changes are happening at the old Martin's Off Madison location...BEARS are movin' in!

Really…we’re going to have to resort to going all “Watergate” on the Capitol Hill Seattle Blog and start wiretapping their offices so we can get the poo on the stories they are working on…OR, we need to find some “Deep Throat” types to give us all the hot news first. Our friends over at CHS got the scoop yesterday on a new Bear Bar going into the old Sea Wolf/Martin’s Off Madison space behind Chop Suey on 14th Street between Madison and Union. The bar is unnamed and they don’t have a date for their opening, but work is being done on the space. Justin, aka JSeattle, spoke with co-owner Mike Reis about their plans for the new “Bear Cave” for the grizzlies, cubs and otters of Seattle.

If the den of burly guys CHS found working away on 14th Ave this past weekend have their way, part of the Pride weekend excitement in Seattle will be people talking about a new bear bar on Capitol Hill. “It’s going to be a really fun place where everybody can feel comfortable at,” co-owner Mike Reis tells CHS about a new project underway about to fill in the former Martin’s off Madison space on 14th Ave between Madison and Union. “We want a bear bar that is open to everybody,” Reis said.

Reis tells CHS that the project is something he and his partners have been working on for years as bear culture has gained acceptance and prominence. “We were guys that typically didn’t fit it,” Reis said. “We were just guys that happened to be gay. We’re no strangers to beer and pizza. Look at us!”

Read the rest of the article at CHS…it’s a compelling look at a potentially interesting new venue that joins a list of other recent bar opening announcements that is bound to change the landscape of Seattle’s LGBTQ entertainment and nightlife scene. Eventually, we want to talk to these guys, too and find out some more nitty gritty about what they’re up to.

Side Note: I miss the “Sea Woof”….it was an awesome, divey bar.
