Get “Lost in Space” with The Atomic Bombshells.

Having spent two years of my life filming and interviewing burlesque performers for my “Waxie Moon” film, I often get asked by burlesque virgin friends: “What should I see or where should I go see it?”  Well, ask no more.  The Atomic Bombshells, a world renown all-star burlesque troupe, is returning to The Triple Door this fall with their “Lost in Space” show.  The show features most of my personal favorites including Kitten La Rue (the show’s creator and choreographer), Honey D. Luxe, Ruby Mimosa, Babette LaFave, Waxie Moon, Miss Indigo Blue (the current Reigning Queen of Burlesque), Inga Ingenue (who just won Miss Viva Las Vegas), Lou Henry Hoover, BenDeLaCreme, Jasper McCann and a chorus line of hunky dancers.  Inspired by campy retro sci-fi gems like Barbarella, “Lost in Space” is pure joy to behold with gorgeous choreography, superb performances and costumes by J. Von Stratton Designs that would make Bob Mackie jealous.  Von Stratton spoke to me about her work on the show:

“I pulled images from vintage films and photographs, took note of artists such as Leigh Bowery, as well as scoured photos from Fashion Week.  Each costume needed to have a design element that was innovative and unique, as well as come off quickly!

There are a few subtle tributes to design legends in the show, such as Kitten La Rue’s Saturn gown, paying homage to the late Alexander MacQueen, by borrowing his trademark Bowl style neckline.  There are also nods to designers Manish Arora and Olivier Theyskens, as well as classic icons such as Barbarella and Buck Rogers.”
