The City of Chicago is amidst a drag renaissance and it has spawned the short-film Lipstick City from the mind of drag diva Shea Couleé, flanked with the help of her creative and producing team that includes Kelly Schmader, Dan Polyak, and Brian Morgan.

The trailer just dropped this morning and stars many of Chicago’s eclectic drag queens, to include Kim Chi, who as you know was just revealed to be on the eighth season RuPaul’s Drag Race, along with Seattle’s own Robbie Turner. Beverly Lately, Dida Ritz, Lucy Stoole, Trannika Rex, and The Lady Ivory also make appearances.

Coming Soon: In the world of Lipstick City, Miss Coulée and Shea exact revenge on Miss Coulée’s unfaithful husband.

A visually sumptuous exploration of the drag persona of model Shea Couleé, this short film will be an arresting display of dance, music, and fashion. When high end fashion model Miss Couleé discovers evidence that her powerful husband, Mr., isn’t the faithful man she thought she married, she teams up with her ally Shea to go underground into a glamorous and gritty world run by powerful entrepreneur Chic [Kim Chi] to exact her revenge.

Having watched all of these girls kick ass and take names on stages across the Windy City, I’m extremely excited to see what the final product turns out to be. Already, I can see the cinematography is beautiful and engaging. They’ve definitely raised the bar local drag, that’s for sure.
