“All About Shooting My Mother” could be the subtitle for the Argentinian thriller El Ángel, screening at SIFF this weekend.

The 45th Seattle International Film Festival kicks off TONIGHT, Thursday, May 16th with the Opening Night Gala of local filmmaker Lynn Shelton’s latest film, SWORD OF TRUST. The Red Carpet event still has a few tickets left; go HERE to snag them and help support SIFF and local film.

Starting Friday, May 17th, you can go see films all over the city including a bevy of LGBTQ films opening this first weekend including the locally made lesbian romance, Good Kisser which opens Friday at SIFF at the Uptown. There’s also Jean-Paul Gaultier: Freak and Chic a documentary about the iconic French fashion designer responsible for Madonna’s bullet bra….not to mention two enticing thrillers, the Argentinian true life criminals on the run El Ángel (produced by Pedro Almodovar) and an erotic and bloody French thriller, Knife+Heart that features serial killers and gay porn stars.

Check out more info on more films below and/or go to the SIFF site!

And the Category Is… LGBTQ Realness

They’re here, they’re queer, and they’re ready to be watched. These films will dazzle those looking to be dazzled and move those looking to be moved. Their subjects are as complex and varied as the queer folks they’re representing, and that’s something to celebrate.

About the Author: Michael Strangeways

As the Editorial Director/Co-Owner, Michael Strangeways writes, edits and does about a million other jobs for Seattle Gay Scene, Puget Sound's most visited LGBTQ news, arts and entertainment website now celebrating its 14th year as a media outlet. A semi-proud Midwesterner by birth, he's lived in Seattle since 2000. He's also a film producer who would like you to check out the Jinkx Monsoon documentary, "Drag Becomes Him" now available on Amazon.com. In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
