Seattle’s beloved WNBA team, the Seattle Storm, 4x national champions, are super proud they’re sending a large chunk of their team to this year’s Summer Olympics in Tokyo this July.
The Storm’s Sue Bird, Breanna Stewart and Jewell Loyd will all play for Team USA’s Women’s Basketball team who have won more Olympic Gold Medals than any other team winning the gold in the last five Olympics. It will be Sue Bird’s 5th visit to the Olympics; Stewart’s 2nd trip and Loyd’s first Olympic Games.
On Wednesday, Storm forward Katie Lou Samuelson was named to the 3-on-3 women’s basketball squad. It will be her first Olympics. 3 on 3 basketball is just what it sounds like: 3 players vs 3 players in fast outdoor games and it makes its first appearance at an Olympics this year.
And, Storm forward Stephanie Talbot and center Ezi Magbegor are also heading to Tokyo but they’ll be playing for their native Australian women’s basketball team.
Congratulations to all six Storm players heading to Tokyo!
