Big disco nightclub SUPERNOVA exploded onto Seattle’s nightlife scene in the middle of a pandemic and have somehow managed to not only survive, but grow and thrive.
For June 2022 events, the nightclub offers up a huge selection of very special events (in addition to their regular weekend parties) with something for pretty much everyone in the big LGBTQ rainbow.
Well, the over 21 rainbow. At least the younguns can enjoy their float in the Seattle Pride Parade!
Zac Levine, the creator of Supernova and Wesley Frugé, Executive Director of BeautyBoiz and Hannah Balducci, founder of Sapphic Seattle who produce events at the night club, have come up with an amazing line-up and events and talent.
Check them out!
Thursday the 16th of June – BLACK PRIDE CELEBRATION with BEAUTYBOIZ
It’s time for BeautyBoiz’s annual celebration of Black Pride! Supernova is rolling out the red carpet for the collective of producers that has created a film featuring Queer Black artists and dancers from the Pacific Northwest. The film seamlessly blends every artist’s performances and musical styles together in a graceful, 45-minute video. The entire production team of that project is POC producers, filmmakers and artists. The film will also be running with Northwest Film Forum online.
“We do so much do provide education opportunities for people in the queer community who are looking to elevate their career by learning production skills;” says Wesley Frugé, Executive Director of BeautyBoiz. “Black Pride Celebration Vol.3 is a great example of how we provide the infrastructure for artists to come in and learn, and create their own vision”.
Thursday the 23rd of June – Sapphic PRIDE – “Isle of Lesbos”
Supernova, with their partner Sapphic Seattle, is committed to creating a space for individuals who identify as part of the lesbian, queer women and Sapphic community, who are, unfortunately, highly under-represented in Pride events. This night is going to be one hell of a rager, for the all-female, femme fatales!
¨Sapphic individuals deserve that euphoric experience of walking into a space that is curated for them. Supernova has been a great partnership for us because we wanted to give our community a real nightlife experience: a high production, blow-out club night, but in an environment where they can feel confident, safe, and be themselves.” says Hannah Balducci, founder of Sapphic Seattle.
To honor this partnership, Supernova exclusively hires female/femme-presenting staff –including security- to work Sapphic events.
Friday the 24th of June – Finale of the runway competition Fruit Bowl (7-9pm)
Fruit Bowl, the brand new queer runway competition created by Seattle drag personality Mona Real and BeautyBoiz, reaches its finale during Pride week! On Friday the 24th, the last 4 remaining contestants will showcase their extravagant ready-to-wear and couture runway creations as they face-off on the catwalk for the chance to win the grand prize!
An event that encourages creativity through costume and design for queer artists.
Following Fruit Bowl, at 9pm, on Friday the 24th of June is the return of legendary Seattle gay party RAPTURE (9pm-4am)
Rapture, the night of artistic, experimentation, groundbreaking drag performances, and dancefloor magic hasn’t been produced since before the pandemic. Hosted by its original architect, Arson Nicki, this extravaganza will feature everything this party was known for, including an iconic photo booth installation and a pop-up community runway to show off innovative looks. New twists and surprises will give this edition a distinctly 2022 feel. In true Rapture tradition, guests are encouraged to show up in an avant garde look of their own.
Rapture returns hand in hand with BeautyBoiz, who will be producing the event in partnership with Supernova.
“Rapture was what it was primarily because of the community around it. The opportunity to experiment with and question the party’s meaning in 2022 vs. 2019 was too creatively delicious to pass on. We’re excited to try mixing things up in order to serve new contexts while preserving the spirit that made the night special and necessary.” says Arson Nicki, the Creator of Rapture “The primary goal for “Rapture: The Return” is to remind the community of why this respect endures, while at the same time inspiring a new generation of queer nightlife tastemakers to dream ambitiously of drag’s future possibilities. Expect jubilation, artistic risks, and a club night you won’t soon forget.”
Saturday the 25 th of June : STAYIN’ ALIVE featuring BEAUTYBOIZ
Expect the unexpected at “Stayin’ Alive”, Seattle’s longest running weekly disco party! With DJs, aerialists, drag queens, live musicians, and Go-Gos from all shades, genders and backgrounds. Pure disco ecstasy!
“The original energy of the discotheque is inherently queer;” says Zac Levine, Creator of Supernova. “With “Stayin’ Alive”, we are reviving the Disco culture of inclusion, safe space, and escapism. At Supernova, we are continuing to push the needle forward for culture by taking a grand stand of overt inclusivity.”
Sunday the 26 th of June – Supernova brings its spectacular Disco energy to the Pride Parade
Sunday June 26, 2022 – 11:00AM – 3:00PM
Starts at 4th & Pike → Ends at 2nd Ave & Denny Way
For its first attendance at the Seattle Pride Parade, Supernova is bringing a mobile disco dance party to the people in a 10-foot plexiglass truck! The club is inviting its partners BeautyBoiz and Sapphic Seattle to come and celebrate together, and expects roughly 150 people parading with them as queer Supernova resident DJs will be spinning disco tunes through an impressive mobile sound system. The crowd can also expect to see the club’s resident Drag Queens on top of the mobile dancefloor!
“You’re going to know when we’re coming because you’re going to hear it!” jokes Wesley Fruge, Executive Director of BeautyBoiz “It’s going to be a wonderful celebration of the inclusive Supernova community”
Following the Parade – Sunday the 26 th of June – BeautyBoiz REVIVAL
Supernova will open its doors from 9pm to 4am on Sunday for the iconic BeautyBoiz party! Revival is a dance party where all facets of the queer community come to the dancefloor together to support and uplift queer entertainers, while highlighting the ballroom community and bringing ballroom energy to nightlife. This party is alwayz sexxxy and sure will have the attendees dancing surrounded by fabulous queers all night long!
“At Supernova, pride isn’t celebrated for just one month, or one week;” concludes Zac Levine, Creator of Supernova. “Every event is an opportunity to celebrate Pride and inclusivity. Our whole mission is to provide a home for patrons to feel the freedom to be themselves and party within a safe, fun, and friendly atmosphere”
