Indigequeer Takes Over Seattle Rep For A FREE Party This Saturday

April 1, 2024• byMichael Strangeways

Multi-hyphenate talent Howie Echo-Hawk is an artist in residence at Seattle Rep this year and they’re also the founder of Indigenize Productions and the Indigequeer Party which has produced several LGBTQ Two Spirit events in the greater Seattle area in the last few years. Howie has put together an Indigequeer Party to happen Saturday, April 6th from 6pm to 10pm at Seattle Rep on the Seattle Center Campus. It’s a FREE event (but 21+) with drinks available to purchase and they’d like you to RSVP if you plan on going. Go to https://www.seattlerep.org/audience-programs/upcoming-events/special-events/indigenize-productions-indigequeer-live-at-seattle-rep/ to do that. The event will feature live music, djs, drag, burlesque and vendors.

Howie describes Indigequeer as:

Indigequeer is a dance party with live music, drag, burlesque and more!
Indigequeer is space for joy, safety, love and unapologetic celebration.
Indigequeer is Home.

Note: everyone is invited to this event but as the below information points out, this is an Indigenous event celebrating queer Indigenous people and culture so if you’re not queer or indigenous, some of the material might make you…uncomfortable. If you’re a thin-skinned Karen or Kraig, maybe you should stay home…

More info below…OH! And, note that MASKS are REQUIRED for this event! If you have a problem with that…again, stay home.

Oh hey, Indigequeers and Indigequeer community! You are invited to Seattle Rep for an INDIGEQUEER Night of Extravagance, Self-Indulgence, and Abundance! Featuring vendors, dancing, live music, and performances from theres more, the Indigequeer, AKA Howie Echo-Hawk, founder of Indigenize Productions and the current Native Artist-in-Residence at Seattle Rep.

Join us for a free evening of live music, standup comedy, storytelling, and some special surprises! theres more will be joined by some of their favorite Seattle performers (TBA) on a night you won’t forget. New music will be debuted, jokes will be told, stories will be shared, and butts will be moved.

There might be laughter, there may be tears, and there will certainly be intentionally awkward moments for caucasians. (Awkward, delightful, painful moments. If you saw Between Two Knees at Seattle Rep last season, you know what we mean.) Don’t forget the vendors and drinks, and of course it wouldn’t be an Indigenize Productions party without some dancing! Come dressed to the nines and get settled in because hey, theres more!

Please note this is a mask-required event.

About the Author: Michael Strangeways

As the Editorial Director/Co-Owner, Michael Strangeways writes, edits and does about a million other jobs for Seattle Gay Scene, Puget Sound's most visited LGBTQ news, arts and entertainment website now celebrating its 14th year as a media outlet. A semi-proud Midwesterner by birth, he's lived in Seattle since 2000. He's also a film producer who would like you to check out the Jinkx Monsoon documentary, "Drag Becomes Him" now available on Amazon.com. In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
