On Monday, October 6th, beloved former Seattle drag star and community activist MAMA TITS aka Brian Peters released a shocking statement on their social media: the Puerto Vallarta based entertainer is battling prostate cancer and outlined in great detail, plans on how to battle the disease over the coming months.
Mama/Brian is a familiar name and face to Seattle, becoming a major presence in Seattle’s LGBTQ+ community as a Sister of Perpetual Indulgence, then becoming a leading drag entertainer hosting at LeFaux at Julia’s on Broadway, then at The Grill on Broadway where they created the Mimosas Drag Brunch that eventually moved to the Unicorn on Pike Street where it became an award winning success.
Of course Mama is probably best known nationally for standing up to anti-gay protesters at the 2013 Seattle LGBTQ Pride Parade where she served as hostess, going “tits to nose” with a particularly obnoxious fascist trying to obstruct the parade. https://seattlegayscene.com/2014/06/mama-tits-parade-attendees-create-wall-of-love-against-protesters-at-seattle-pride-parade/

Mama and her husband DJ moved to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico in 2017 quickly establishing Mama Tits as one of the top headlining acts in that popular tourist destination. But, like most independent performers, medical insurance isn’t provided and not always easy to get or affordable. With this diagnosis, Mama/Brian will not be able to work a full season of shows in Puerto Vallarta and will not only have a much reduced income, but mounting medical expenses. Fortunately, the cost of treatment and the cost of living in Mexico are generally cheaper than in the United States, but support will still be needed to help Mama win this fight. Friends of the diva have created a GoFundMe to help Mama over the next few months…if you’re able to give something, please help contribute to aid a fierce performer and community activist. Already, over $30k has been raised but…chemo ain’t cheap anywhere so give generously if you can.

We send all of our love to Brian and DJ at this time. They have both been a life support to me and this website for many years and we adore both of them; they are two of the kindest people I’ve ever had the pleasure to call friends.
Mama/Brian’s original statement down below:
Hello my sweet Titllations,
I have something very important to share with you.
Over the past month, my world has turned upside down. What began as a routine prostate check, my first ever, has escalated into something I never imagined facing at 46. My PSA (prostate-specific antigen) levels came back extremely high, my MRI showed a Gleason score of 8, and my PET scan revealed that the cancer has already entered the early stages of metastasizing.
In just a few short weeks, what we thought was manageable has exploded into an aggressive, life-threatening diagnosis. My doctors have given me only a short window, just a couple of months, before the cancer spreads too far for treatment to be effective.
Because of this, my medical team has crafted an intense and urgent treatment plan to try to save my life. This includes emergency surgery followed by multiple layers of therapy to attack the cancer from every angle. It’s the fight of my life, and we’re racing against the clock.
I’ll be honest with you: I’m more scared than I’ve ever been. But I also have an incredible team of doctors, including experts abroad, working with me to make sure we don’t leave any stone unturned. If these treatments are successful, I’ll have the chance to return more fully to the stage, though it will be a long journey.
Because of this, I need to share some important scheduling updates:
• November 1: Emergency surgery
• Mid-December: Start of hormone treatment to remove all testosterone from my body
• Late December / January: Targeted return to shows, health permitting
• February: One-month radiation therapy in Guadalajara
• March onward: Full return to the stage through the end of the season, if all goes according to plan
Please know this:
I love what I do! Performing and connecting with all of you gives me strength. I will keep showing up and doing shows as much as my health allows.
This is going to be a long road, and it’s terrifying, but I’m not giving up. I’m fighting with everything I’ve got.
How You Can Help:
As many of you know, I don’t have health insurance, and the treatment plan ahead is extremely expensive. Some of my amazing friends have set up a GoFundMe to help cover the mounting medical costs to give me the best possible shot at beating this.
If you’re able and would like to support me through this journey, here’s the link:
No amount is too small, and just sharing the link means the world to me. Your love and support truly keep me going.
Thank you to my friends, fans, chosen family, and the Puerto Vallarta community for your endless love and encouragement. You mean the world to me.
With love and fierce determination,
Mama Tits / Brian Peters
