Seattle LGBTQ Center Mental Health Program Now Accepting New Clients

September 18, 2026• byMichael Strangeways

It was a sad day in LGBTQ+ Seattle when Seattle Counseling Services went belly up a few years back due to mismanagement. It left many local LGBTQ+ people struggling to find the mental health treatment they needed within their own community. Happily, The Seattle LGBTQ+ Center has stepped up and created their own program.

The skinny via press release:

SEATTLE — The Seattle LGBTQ+ Center’s Mental Health Program is now accepting new trans and gender diverse clients seeking affirming mental health services.

The program provides affirming care centered on each person’s needs, experiences, and goals. For queer and trans people, finding a provider who understands how identity, lived experience, and barriers to care can shape mental health can make a meaningful difference.

“According to the 2025 WA LGBTQ+ Survey, our community reported staggering disparities in both mental health challenges and access to supportive and inclusive mental health services. We opened the doors to our mental health program earlier this year and deliberately chose to center trans and gender diverse community members, while also offering navigation assistance to the broader community to ensure that everybody can get connected to supportive counselors and services.”

– Amanda Sáenz, Health Systems Navigator

The Mental Health Program is part of the Center’s commitment to providing community care for queer and trans people. Through services, resources, and connections that support health and well-being, the Center helps people access care while honoring their right to make decisions about their own lives and health.

People interested in accessing the Seattle LGBTQ+ Center’s mental health resources and becoming a client can begin by completing the Center’s online screener at gaycity.org/MentalHealthScreener. The screener helps the Mental Health Program team learn more about each person’s needs and determine next steps.

Seattle’s LGBTQ+ Centers Mental Health Program does not provide crisis response services.
