Wes Anderson has made a career with extraordinary characters and a distinctly personal visual style. Arguably his most realistic narrative, Moonrise Kingdom is imbued with all of Anderson’s cinematic techniques and truly offers an opportunity to see beyond the novelty to experience the value of his dramatic storytelling prowess. Cornish Film Professor Lyall Bush will join the fray to help unlock the playful world of Wes Anderson over this extended film analysis session.

About the Facilitator
Lyall Bush is Chair of Cornish College of the Art’s Film+Media department and former executive director of Northwest Film Forum. He has published and led panel conversations on many filmmakers and aspects of cinema, from Jean Renoir and Quentin Tarantino to screenwriting, the western, Marlon Brando, Todd Haynes and Julianne Moore. In addition to his work at Cornish he has taught film at Rutgers University, Seattle University, the University of Washington, and at Northwest Film Forum.

About Cinema Dissection
Cinema Dissection affords film lovers an exciting opportunity to dig deeper into the films that they love. Inspired by Roger Ebert’s annual Cinema Interruptus in Boulder, CO, attendees will participate with a facilitator in a six hour scene-by-scene, and sometimes shot-by-shot, deconstruction of the featured film. While the facilitator will certainly share their thoughts, anyone in the audience may call out ‘Stop’ and either ask a question of the group or make an observation around a certain shot or moment in the film.

Note: Participants are recommended TO HAVE SEEN Moonrise Kingdom in advance of the session! We will not be screening the film in it’s entirety before the dissection begins.
