ART WALK: Nate Gowdy Photo Show “Campaign in Contrast” PART II
October 13, 2016 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
THE EXHIBITION
This is the series’ third exhibition, second at Retail Therapy, with all new work, framed and on display. Images previously on display will be available as 4×6 prints, as well as new prints. All new mugs (featuring the candidate’s mugs!) will be debuted. And wine, too!
Contemporary politics have evoked such intense and visceral reactions in 2016, more so than any campaign in recent memory. In bold black and white, the personal photography project “Campaign in Contrast” visually echoes the spectacle of a starkly polarized presidential election: the harsh contrast of passionately partisan contests and the blunt ways supporters see themselves as well as their rivals — Republican versus Democrat, the Left versus the Right, capitalist versus socialist, conservative versus liberal, even good versus evil. From the bright spots to the dark crevasses, the monochromatic medium symbolizes the history of the timeless American experiment, still ongoing, with less and less room for gray.
The work has been featured in TIME, CNN, American Photography 32, Communication Arts’ 57th Photo Annual, Cannabis Now, Al Jazeera English, Courrier International (Paris), Die Zeit (Germany), PDNedu, PetaPixel, Reading the Pictures, Fisheye Magazine (Paris) The Stranger, City Arts Magazine, and KING5. The exhibition includes images taken at campaign stops this past year in Iowa, New Hampshire, Vermont, South Carolina, Nevada, Washington state, Wisconsin, Oregon, Indiana, California, Ohio, Pennsylvania, DC, Virginia, Colorando, and Arizona.
