RISK! is a live show and podcast “where people tell true stories they never thought they’d dare to share in public” hosted by Kevin Allison, of the legendary MTV sketch comedy troupe The State. The award-winning live show sells out monthly in New York and Los Angeles and has featured people like Marc Maron, Sarah Silverman, Lili Taylor, Patton Oswalt, Andy Dick and more, dropping the act and showing a side of themselves we’ve never seen before. The weekly podcast gets hundreds of thousands of downloads each month. Risk! was featured in Rolling Stone’s “Best Comedy Podcasts” and named Time Out LA’s #1 Don’t-Miss Live Podcast and in Time Out NY’s Top 10 NY Podcasts.
Soon after he started Risk! In August 2009, Kevin founded The Story Studio teaching true storytelling to businesspeople, stage performers and folks who just want to work on conversation skills. “I’ve worked with some of the best storytellers and teachers in New York, creating exercises that build on an individual’s skills at mapping out series of incidents, bringing scenes to life in vivid detail, and using your personality to make the telling of the tale engrossing. It’s so exciting to see how everyone improves. I feel honored and grateful that I love this work so much.”
If you’re a comedy lover, you’ll know Kevin Allison from the legendary sketch comedy group, The State. If you liked “The Jew, The Italian and the Red-Head Gay” on the The State’s series on MTV, Kevin was the titular Redhead Gay. His other film and TV appearances include Reno 911!, The Ten, Stella and Flight of the Conchords. Behind the scenes, Kevin has written for Blue Man Group. JibJab and SomeEcards. In the print world, his writing has appeared in The Village Voice, Giant, Premiere and Film Journal. He has served as the Artistic Director of The Peoples Improv Theater in New York, taught comedy writing at New York University and founded his own storytelling school and corporate training center at TheStoryStudio.org.
