Nonbinary & Trans Characters in Sci-Fi and Fantasy
February 25, 2018 @ 1:15 pm - 3:45 pm
Many of us look to media, including literature, to show us the way the world does or could work. We look for ourselves, we look to create and imagine. Our communities are influenced by the stories and characters they see, and we our identities are influenced by the ideas we are able to explore.
In this workshop, we will discuss our favorite works of speculative fiction that go beyond binaries. We will address questions like:
Why is trans and nonbinary representation important? How does the perspective of the reader and author shape the character? How can we create space for diverse writers?
Bring your own recommendations and maybe you can even check out your favorite suggestion at the library afterwards.
