“Private Property” is the seventh film in the VOYEUR series, which has primarily focused on exhibiting strange and wonderfully perverse cinematic gems every third Sunday of the month at Scarecrow Video! Recently restored after having been lost for nearly thirty years, 1960’s Private Property is an independent film starring cult favorite Warren Oates and the late Kate Manx in a savagely dark exploitation film about two erratic Los Angeles drifters that follow a beautiful woman to her home in order to assault her. While the film was condemned by the Catholic Legion of Decency and considered “sordid” and “depressing” by the Kennedys after a private White House screening, the film today seems to anticipate the sinister and highly stylized independent films of the early 70s and gives its audience a rare glimpse of attitudes surrounding non-traditional sexual behavior and gender roles at the beginning of the sexual revolution.
