We kept waiting for Dolly to show up for a cameo but she never did!
That was really the only major downside to the hella cute new movie DUMPLIN’ which just debuted on Netflix this month. It’s based on a popular YA novel about a chubby teen girl nicknamed Dumplin’ (played by the adorable but a bit old to be playing a high school girl, Danielle Macdonald) having some self esteem issues while trying to find some common ground with her beauty queen mother (Jennifer Aniston) in a small Texas town. Along the way, her love of Dolly Parton and some new found drag queen friends help her find the way to happiness and self love via competing in her town’s local beauty pageant.
And, she snags a hot boyfriend played by former Disney hot throb Luke Benward!!! Who is now a hairy otter hunk!! (with some nasty Snapchats out there….filthy and obviously NSFW link HERE!)
It’s raaal cute, y’all (in a frothy sorta way) and one of the cutest (albeit unlikely) bits is Dumplin’ visiting a gay bar to get advice on how to perform in the talent portion of the pageant. She’s aided by the bar owner (played by Los Angeles gay actor Sam Pancake) and the bar’s two resident queens played by Harold Perrineau (probably best known for TV shows “Lost” and “Oz”) and RuPaul’s Drag Race star Ginger Minj.
Now, Ginger is headlining this fun video of Dolly Parton’s classic song “Jolene” with a bevy of her RPDR pals to help her including Alaska, Katya, Manila, Seattle’s own BenDeLaCreme and Bebe Zahara. It’s PRECIOUS!
Dolly doesn’t appear in the movie but she did do the music for the film…more poo on Dolly’s Dumplin’ soundtrack:
Dolly Parton’s legendary “Jolene” is covered by some of your favorite queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race, serving iconic Dolly looks. “Jolene, I’m begging of you please don’t take my man.”
