Julia Sweeney will perform her acclaimed one-person comedy show, “Julia Sweeney: Older & Wider,” at The Neptune on February 1, 2020.
Julia debuted this show at The Second City in Chicago where it played for 5 sold out weeks. Chris Jones of the Chicago Tribune wrote, “Sweeney’s fabulous new show, ‘Older & Wider’ is especially funny. This show is by far her most personal. She puts you in mind of monologists like Spalding Gray, minus the ego. Most solo shows are about leaning into fame, this is about it’s deliberate abandonment.”
The prestigious Geffen Theater ran Julia’s show for several weeks in February of 2019. Kathleen Foley of The Los Angeles Times wrote, “Julia Sweeney is older, and wider, and really, really (really) funny. She remains a full-throttled charmer with the observational skills of Proust.”
Julia Sweeney is a native of Spokane, Washington and has been acting, writing and performing comedy for 35 years. She was on Saturday Night Live from 1990 to 1994. She has appeared in many TV shows and films. Currently she is on 3 different TV series, Hulu’s “Shrill” where she plays SNL regular Aidy Bryant’s mother, in “Work-in-Progress” which will debut on Showtime in early 2020, and as a season regular on the upcoming 3rd season of “American Gods” on Starz.
This is Julia’s fourth one-person show. Her solo show, “God Said Ha!” was nominated for a Grammy and played on Broadway. Her show “Letting Go of God” was performed all over the world and the film of this show was shown on Showtime.
