Michael McAfoose was out running around all over the place on Election Night, Tuesday, November 6 and snapped Some Lovely Photos at the big events held by The Stranger and Washington United for Marriage and then later at the street party at 10th and Pike Street. Here are a few photos from the night and check out more photos on our Facebook page.
The faces of the people in these photos speak for themselves. A lot of joy and happiness and relief after a season of hard work and determination and faith that equality IS possible for all. Referendum 74 passed giving everyone in the State of Washington the right to marry the person they love. Marriage equality measures also passed in Maine and Maryland and a step forward was made in Minnesota. Wisconsin’s Tammie Baldwin became the first out lesbian woman elected to the United States Senate. The majority of candidates who made ridiculous and offensive misogynistic comments about rape and women’s reproductive rights were defeated. Positive steps were made in Colorado and Washington State for the legalization of marijuana. President Barack Obama was elected to a second term.
It’s been 48+ hours but we’re getting weepy all over again.
Salud!
To the thousands of hours of work and the millions of dollars raised and the people who put in that work and raised and gave that money.
Salud to us all…now, and as we move forward.
