Perpetually annoyed liberal voice, and long-suffering straight ally Keith Olbermann is abruptly out of MSNBC as of last Friday. His COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN show led into everyone’s favorite news lesbian Rachel Maddow, making it 120 minutes of news heaven for those who enjoy logic, reason and context with their news (notoriously “liberals”). Keith Olbermann did, however, have no fear of tangential rants, no matter how emotionally charged they might be. If he were a lesser journalist (a la Glenn Beck) those emotional diatribes would smack of insincerity (a la Glenn Beck) and would simply come off as patronizing schlock (a la Sarah Palin in everything she says…)
I’m not at all surprised to hear he was outta there. There’s still a ton of speculation about why – after all, Keith was grounded back in November when it came out that he’d donated to three Democratic candidates (In total around $7,500), for violating a clause in his contract that forbade such a contribution without express consent from NBC – perhaps his refusal to be contained by rules ultimately made his relationship with his corporate overlords too tenuous to handle. At least for a little while, I’m going to be skeptical of what’s being reported about him.
But one thing is for sure – he isn’t going away. And that’s one thing I am grateful for. Thanks to the interwebs, we can look forward to years of him speaking truth to power.
Maybe we’ll see more of that sexypants Dylan Ratigan on MSNBC?
