Are we not men? DEVO hits the Moore Theatre just in time for the Ides of March!

March 12, 2011• bySeattle Gay Scene

Hmmmm….the fact that I’m confessing to a certain degree of love for the seminal Eighties New Wave band, DEVO is certainly going to out me, age wise. I know some younger kids appreciate the awesomeness that is DEVO, but for most of us, you kind of had to be THERE at a certain time and place, ie the early 80’s. DEVO also has a warm place in my heart, because their biggest hit, “Whip It” caused a huge controversy in my high school…the Drill Team choreographed a number for a Pep Rally to the song and of course it was a big hit with the kids, but some teachers got their nuts in a twist about it…who knew that conservative, narrow minded, Midwestern bigots would have a conniption over a song about “whipping IT”? Prudes…

For those of you who have the urge to come to the “Devolution”, the classic DEVO line-up of the two sets of brothers; Mark and Bob Mothersbaugh, Gerald and Bob Casale, are back touring and they’re coming to Seattle on Tuesday, March 15 for a night of forward looking nostalgia at The Moore Theatre. Naturally, they’ll be performing songs from their latest album, Something for Everybody, but I’m guessing they’ll also whip out a few of their classic hits like “Jocko Homo” and “Freedom of Choice”. Opening for the band, will be “Octopus Project” and the show starts at 7:30pm. Get tickets HERE.

Fun Factoid: In a recent interview, Gerald Casale revealed they are working on a DEVO musical. That could either be the most awesome thing ever, or the biggest train wreck ever! I vote for the awesome; these guys are well schooled in performance art rock.
