Al Pacino is coming to Seattle?!?!?

April 25, 2011• bySeattle Gay Scene

Michael Corleone/Sonny Wortzik/Serpico/Tony Montana is coming to Seattle.

I was cruising the Facebook and discovered that Seattle Theatre Group posted that film/stage acting legend Al Pacino is coming to the Paramount for one night only, Saturday, June 11 for a one man q&a/interview/career retrospective.

Join us for an evening with one of cinemaʼs most riveting stars and step into the world of Al Pacino as he shares his passion for acting and directing up close and personal. In an on stage interview with clips (some never seen before) Al Pacino will give a rare glimpse into the life, work and creative process of one of our greatest actors. Sharing backstage tales from a lifetime in the world of theatre and film and revealing the inner workings of his most personal work (watch for surprise readings) this one night only event will end with a question and answer session with you, the audience.

Al Pacino has created some of the most indelible character portrayals in cinema history. Starring in over forty films that include The Godfather Trilogy, Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico, Scarface, Dick Tracy, The Insider, Any Given Sunday and Angels in America. He has been nominated for eight Academy Awards and fifteen Golden Globes. He has won four Golden Globes, two Emmy Awards, two Tony Awards for his work on Broadway and an Oscar for his performance as Lt. Col Frank Slade in Scent of A Woman. He has been given the Cecil B. DeMille Award, the AFI Life Achievement Award and the New York Film Society Lifetime Tribute Award.

This low key announcement astounds me…is this for real? It doesn’t seem like something Pacino would do, outside New York…he’s notoriously shy about “being himself”. And, the blurb doesn’t say if this has anything to do with the Seattle International Film Festival which concludes the day after this event. I do know that Mr. Pacino isn’t being honored this year at SIFF…every year the Festival gives a special award and a tribute to a filmmaker (usually an actor) and screens several of their films, and from what I know, Mr. Pacino is NOT this year’s honoree. And, if this is a SIFF related event, it shouldn’t have been released until next week when all the films/events are revealed. Odd.

Regardless, it’s exciting news for film/stage nerds. It’s not often that you get to hear a legend discuss his/her career live and in person. Here’s hoping the audience can convince him to do a “mash-up” of his greatest lines….”Attica!” and “Say Hello to my little fren’!”
