Two lower class women immigrated from former colonies, the Philippines and Vietnam, to the land of a colonizer, the United States. Things get spicy when their educated daughters start to question who truly holds the power in the Land of the Free when interracial marriage, culture, beauty and death are involved.

Mara Palma’s celebration of the two women in her life, her mom and aunt, who taught her the power of living life on your own terms. Her mom and aunt grew up in the same house in the Philippines, but immigrated to America by different paths. Their daughters, Mara and her cousin, grow up together, and look to their mothers on what it means to be a Filipina-American woman in 2018. This is an autobiographical piece about defining X.
Dr. X: How I Avenged My Mother’s Death

Solo performer Susan Lieu recounts how the negligence of a plastic surgeon led to the death of her mother. Primarily a dramatic piece, Lieu weaves Vietnamese conceptions of beauty, dying, and healing with comedic strokes. Written by Susan Lieu, directed by Paul Budraitis.
