Inequality is one of today’s most explosive social issues. In this class, we’ll explore how documentaries shed light on the problem and reveal a deeper truth about inequality in America. Join instructor Christopher Rufo as he shares clips from three Sundance award-winning documentaries and leads a discussion about the impact of social issue filmmaking.

The course will consist of a one-hour lecture and one-hour discussion. We’ll examine how documentary filmmakers approach the story of inequality and discuss clips from three films: Inequality for All, featuring economist Robert Reich; Detropia, examining the rise and fall of Detroit; and Rich Hill, following three boys coming of age in rural Missouri. By the end of the evening, you’ll have a greater understanding of inequality and how documentaries can shine a light on America’s most pressing social problem.
