Dragon Mama, Part II
November 29, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Performances added December 19th & 20th at 7:30 PM
How does a Dragon earn her wings? Maria Porkalob, Jr. yearns for a gayer, more POC-filled life than Bremerton, WA can offer her. When the opportunity to earn a lot of money in a short time presents itself, Maria must make an important decision. Leave her debt-ridden mother, four young siblings, and newborn daughter for the wild unknown of Alaska, or stay close to home, family, and intergenerational ghosts?
After a developmental run this summer at 18th and Union and a week intensive workshop at American Repertory Theatre, Sara Porkalob is ready to share this newer and chunkier Dragon Mama, the second play in her family trilogy, the DRAGON CYCLE. Dragon Mama traverses 25 years of her mother’s life filled with queer love in a barren land, a dope 90’s R&B soundtrack, Filipino gangsters, and ghosts.
Dragon Mama, Part II is a show in evolution. It will include some segments that are fully staged and others that are in the form of a reading. We expect the show to run approximately one hour and 45 minutes including an intermission, but it may vary to some extent at each performance.
Appropriate for ages 12+
