A bittersweet comedy about that first crush.
Fiona returns to her hometown and runs into her very first 6th grade crush Margo. The two reminisce about recess and flash back to the playground in 1988 when new girl Fiona Moore and popular girl Margo Finley combined forces to bring the girl’s kickball team to victory over the boy’s.
But now when they meet again as grown ups, is there still a spark of that grade school crush left?

Fiona: 12 years old, and then 38. Tough, Smart, Observant. In 1988 Fiona has her first crush on Margo, but is unable to express her feelings. She grows up to understand both her sexuality and her own super power to bring out the best in others.
Margo: 12 years old, and then 38. When she is 12 she is a confident, go getter, type A, “popular girl”. But now at 38, Margo seems to have settled for less out of life.
Ian: At 12 years old, he feels like the odd one out dealing with a crush of his own. Now in his late 30’s he is Fiona’s gay best friend, roommate, and touchstone.
Henry/Hal: 12 years old and full of toxic masculinity, Henry is Margo’s 6th grade boyfriend. Hal is 38, Margo’s husband, and more of a feminist than Margo knows.
Narrator: As is the tradition in Z’s New Works Festival, stage directions are read aloud, guiding the action of the play as it travels back and forth in time from 1988 to 2014.
