Born and raised in the former Soviet Union, Wes Hurley is a Seattle-based filmmaker and writer. Hurley directed and produced two features – documentary “Waxie Moon” and experimental pop art comedy “Fallen Jewel”. He also created the critically acclaimed “Capitol Hill” series that started out as a web show on Huffington Post and is now on TV in several countries. “Capitol Hill” season 2 was produced in collaboration with Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center’s Seattle HIV Trials Unit as a means to promote their AMP vaccine study among gay men and trans individuals. Hurley’s many short films include an ongoing anthology “Dark Woods” – a series of Tom of Finland inspired graphic recreations of classical fairytales. Hurley is currently finishing up “Potato Dreams” – a multimedia project based on his experiences growing up gay in Russia. “Potato Dreams” will include a documentary short and an immersive VR piece, both produced by Mel Eslyn, Lacey Leavitt and Mischa Jakupcak. Hurley is a recipient of Seattle Mayor’s Art Grant, the Advocate Magazine’s Person to Watch and City Arts Magazine’s Artist of the Year.
